The Archbishop’s Awards acknowledge the commitment to their faith, academic life, community and social justice of one student from each of 50 secondary schools in the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.
The 2021 awards were presented by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP during a live video conference for the students, their parents and principals on Friday 3 September.
This year’s De La Salle Catholic College Cronulla recipient is Gabrielle Ofria.
Gabrielle promotes the mission and work of the Catholic faith community as a volunteer Catechist and evangelising Year One students at Burraneer Bay Public school, teaching scripture weekly. She has also supported Confirmation candidates preparing to receive the sacrament. Gabrielle is actively engaged in her faith journey with regular worship, participation in youth ministry and Christian holiday camps. She has represented the College at various Sunday Youth Masses at St Aloysius parish and volunteered in liturgies at the College, including Ash Wednesday, Easter and Founder’s Day.
Gabrielle also contributes to the Catholic faith life of the College as a Lasallian Youth Leader, where she organises and promotes social justice initiatives for Caritas and the St Vincent de Paul Society Appeals and Sleep Out. As a leader, Gabrielle also promotes stewardship within the College and initiatives including R U OK? and Harmony Days as a way to live out the Catholic values of compassion and community.
Gabrielle received a medallion and certificate of recognition. The medallion is emblazed with the Archbishop’s Coat of Arms and motto.
Gabrielle’s strong faith and love of Christ is evident through her engagement in parish and school activities.
