Building the next chapter of St Aloysius College
St Aloysius College is growing from a Year 11–12 senior college into a co‑educational Year 7–12 College. This page explains what’s being built, when, and what it means day-to-day for our school community. It will be updated as work progresses on site.

Why we’re building
Making room for a growing college
For decades, St Aloysius College was a Year 11-12 senior college only. In 2024 it welcomed its first Year 7 cohort as part of a transition to a comprehensive, co-educational Year 7–12 college. Demand has been strong — Year 7 places have already needed to be capped while the campus catches up with permanent facilities.
In the meantime, a significant part of teaching has been happening in demountable classrooms, and specialist spaces like science labs and food technology are stretched. This project replaces those temporary arrangements with permanent, purpose-built learning spaces, in a design shaped by the site’s setting between Cross Road and Gunnamatta Bay.
The project has been developed with the college Principal, the Parish, local council and neighbouring residents. It is being delivered under a Development Application approved by Sutherland Council. Which sets a condition of 780 students as the college’s approved enrolment capacity.

The works
What’s being built
The approved works focus on two buildings: the existing library and the site’s main teaching building.

Block D
Existing library

Block A
New teaching building
New Administration & new teaching building
- The current library (Block D) is refurbished into the college’s new Administration, Reception and Staff areas, with compulsory accessibility upgrades.
- The current Administration building (Block A) will be demolished and replaced with a new three-level building containing general learning spaces, science laboratories and science learning spaces, a food technology kitchen, a staff hub and a new library.
- Public domain works funded by Sydney Catholic Schools include two new pedestrian crossings (one on Cross Road and one on Burraneer Bay Road), widening of Cross Road to improve traffic circulation, and a new school street frontage including the rectification of non-compliant car parking.
- The Chapel is relocated to the south of the field as part of these works.
Program
Project milestones
The works are being delivered as three coordinated programs — refurbishing the library into Administration (Block D), Council-required public domain and carpark upgrades, and the new teaching building (Block A) — each with its own procurement and construction schedule.

Latest updates
Jun 2026
Construction begins on Block D
Following contract execution in early June, the head contractor has established their site compound and begun refurbishment of the Administration building (Block D). The Chapel is being relocated and a temporary library demountable established to allow this work to proceed.
Public domain & Block A tenders under evaluation
Tenders for the Council-required public domain works (road, footpath and pedestrian crossing upgrades) and the new Block A teaching building closed in May 2026 and are being assessed, with a Head Contractor appointment expected in the coming months.

Getting around during construction
Keeping students, staff, families and neighbours safe and informed is our priority throughout the build.

Site kept separate from school
The construction zone is hoarded and has its own contractor access point and compound, entirely separate from areas used by students and staff.

Traffic & parking improvements
Works include a widened Cross Road footpath, new pedestrian crossings on Cross Road and Burraneer Bay Road, additional bus bays, a water mains upgrade, and an extended car park.

Respecting our neighbours
The design has been shaped in consultation with residents on Cross Road, with building heights and placement chosen to protect existing views wherever possible.
